Peel. Stick. Award. Stickers are applied to your own standard hockey pucks. Pucks are not included.

A youth hockey Player of the Game award celebrates more than goals. It recognizes the defensive play, the extra effort, the sportsmanship, or the player who simply refused to quit. A hockey puck award gives that player something they can take home and keep.

Chains, wrestling belts, hard hats, and other locker room props can be fun. But there is one obvious downside.

The player eventually has to give it back.

A hockey puck award is different. The player gets to take it home and keep it.

1. They Get to Keep the Award

Win the team belt and you might have it until the next game. Win a Player of the Game puck and it is yours.

Instead of passing the same prop from player to player, every winner leaves the rink with something connected to their game and their moment.

It can go on a bedroom shelf, in a trophy case, or beside their favourite hockey memorabilia. Win another one later in the season and suddenly they are building a collection.

2. You Can Recognize More Than Goals

Hockey puck awards do not have to go to whoever scored the most goals. Coaches can recognize different parts of the game.

Player of the Game For the standout performance.
Heart & Hustle For effort, determination, backchecking, battles, and doing the little things right.
Game Changer For the player who changed the momentum of the game.
Teammate Award For leadership, encouragement, sportsmanship, and putting the team first.

Sometimes the player who deserves recognition is not the one who scored.

3. Easy for Coaches and Team Managers

Hockey already involves enough gear. Sticks, bags, jerseys, water bottles, pucks, first aid supplies, and tournament paperwork all have to make it to the rink.

A small pack of hockey puck award stickers can stay in a coach or team manager's bag all season.

Bring a few regular hockey pucks and you are ready. No bulky prop. No elaborate setup. No wondering who took the team belt home three weeks ago.

4. The Award Becomes Part of the Memory

Years later, a player probably will not remember every regular season game they played when they were nine.

They might remember the night their coach called them into the middle of the dressing room and handed them a puck.

Maybe they scored the winner. Maybe they blocked a shot. Maybe they worked harder than anyone else on the ice.

A physical award connects an object to that moment. The player gets to take the memory home.

5. An Entire Season of Awards Can Be Simple

You do not need custom trophies made after every game.

Start with standard hockey pucks. Add a professionally made puck top sticker. Done.

Teams can prepare several pucks before the season starts or keep the stickers with the team equipment and make one whenever it is needed.

  • Regular season games
  • Tournaments
  • Playoffs
  • Championship weekends
  • Team milestones
  • End of season recognition

Keep a Record of Every Award

Once your award routine is underway, keep a simple record of who received each award and why. A date, opponent, player, and short note can help you remember the moments behind the pucks.

Our free hockey Player of the Game tracker lets you manage your roster, record recipients, and review recognition throughout the season. No account is required. Records stay in your browser on your device, so download backups regularly.

What Size Sticker Fits a Hockey Puck?

A regulation hockey puck is approximately 3 inches in diameter.

Our hockey puck awards use 2.74-inch round designs. This leaves a small black rubber border visible around the outside of the puck instead of covering the full surface.

The result is clean, centred, and looks like a finished hockey award.

What Is a Heart & Hustle Award in Youth Hockey?

A Heart & Hustle award recognizes the parts of hockey that do not always show up on the scoresheet.

  • Backchecking hard
  • Winning battles along the boards
  • Blocking a shot
  • Creating pressure on the forecheck
  • Encouraging teammates
  • Showing great sportsmanship
  • Never giving up on a play

For youth hockey, those moments can be every bit as important as scoring a goal.

Effort matters too.

Player of the Game vs. Heart & Hustle

You do not necessarily have to choose one.

Some teams use Player of the Game for the standout performance and Heart & Hustle for a player whose effort deserves recognition.

One celebrates the result. The other celebrates how the game was played.

A Hockey Tradition Players Can Keep

There is nothing wrong with a giant chain, hard hat, wrestling belt, or whatever ridiculous object your team enjoys passing around.

But if you want a Player of the Game award that lasts longer than the post game photo, give the player something they do not have to return.

A puck is simple. It is hockey. Years later, it might still be sitting on their shelf.
